...back to the day we met :)

Five years ago today, I met my husband :) I remember almost the entire day as clear as anything. A month before, I had moved from Memphis to Nashville and was nannying at the time. It was a Saturday, and I had been chasing two little boys around all day. I smelled like play-doh and peanut butter and was TIRED!

As the day ended, I remembered there was a birthday party for a friend that I promised I'd go to. After the day I had.. I just wanted to go home and watch a movie. I called my friend Haylee from the parking lot of Elmington Park and talked to her for about 30 minutes about how I didn't want to go to the party (... I was having an insecure girl night where I didn't feel all that pretty, I was by myself and still smelled like a nanny). I remember Haylee telling me,"girl.. just go for 30 minutes. You never know.. you might meet the man of your dreams." 

I sucked it up and drove the next few minutes to the party, parked on a side street and started walking to the driveway. My heart was pounding and I felt nervous to go in by myself. As I walked into the light of the streetlamp, I was relieved to see my friend Steve, since he was probably the only person I'd know at the party. Steve was in a conversation with someone and I didn't want to interrupt. I looked to his left and saw this really HOT guy standing there. I said, "Hi! I'm Traci!" and we started chatting a little bit. I never made a habit of starting conversations with random guys.. BUT not only was he gorgeous, but he was friends with Steve.. so he had to be nice.. right? We chatted for a little while longer then I was pulled away by another person I happened to know there. Still being tired, I sat on the sofa and made a pact with myself that I wasn't budging until the hottie came over to talk to me. 

I watched him in his slightly torn Diesels and black jacket making the rounds around the room slyly glancing my direction from time to time. He finally sat down next to me and we spent the next few hours talking about anything and everything. Being new to the city, I hadn't found a church yet and neither had Lee. Ironically, the church he was going to the next morning was the one I was going to! I gave him my number (I hardly EVER gave random guys my number) and we met up for church the next day! And that was the beginning of our journey together :)

UPDATE ::: Lee and I just took a little drive a few minutes ago to the exact place we met.. The corner of Marlborough and Lancaster near Elmington Park. I love that corner and I love my husband :)
